It's been a while
Wow — it has been a while since I posted something on this blog. This happened, or didn't happen actually, for different reasons. First of all, I guess my PhD has recently [like the last 3 years] consumed like 100% of my professional time and has also reduced my social life to the absolute minimum. Secondly, and this is probably a better 'excuse', I switched to another server instance last year. In general this is not that big of a deal, if you manage to save (copy) your backups before you lose access the old server. Um yeah, I do have backups, but the ones I copied are missing like one year of blogging history, stupid me.
What can I do now? Well, at first I was thinking of importing all content and simply 'go on'. After a second thought however, I realized that the old content doesn't really reflect what I actually do these days anymore. Even though this is only partially true [I still do robotics], I finally decided to provide an archive of the old content and do a proper reboot of my blog. I will try to get rid of all the 404's at some point because some of the articles I did in the past reached up to 70k reads and are linked in diverse forums and other blogs. At the moment I have no idea what the best approach for an archive would be. I will figure something out I guess.
What's left to say? While typing this, I realize how I missed my blog. Since I stopped blogging , platforms like Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat and WhatsApp really started dominating social media. Don't get me wrong, I kind of like those channels and I make use of them, like everybody does. Anyway, I really miss reading articles that are longer than 140 chars. Even more than reading well written articles I miss writing them [to the best of my abilities]. I am no social media expert, but I guess the popularity of blogging [as in its original definition] has seen it's 'best days'. According to google [see figure below] blogging has reached a popularity similar to the magnitude when it came up in early 2004.
So, couldn't be a better time to start blogging again. As a last comment, by blogging I don't mean corporate blogs, I mean blogging as in "Initially, blogging involved a personal web log, in which a person would journal about their day. From "web log" came the term "blog."
